The historical, contemporaneous and future use of Restorative Justice within the Probation Service of England and Wales
Abstract
This roundtable will invite discussion from three participants involved in a pilot research project investigating the history and use of Restorative Justice in the English and Welsh probation system from the 1970s to the present day. It will initially discuss the following three factors:
• Why restorative justice in probation has an important role to play; how can the one support/promote the aims, objectives and values of the other
• The history of the use of Restorative Justice in probation
• Historical and contemporary challenges regarding the use of Restorative Justice in probation: limitations and implications
There will then be the chance for the audience to debate any of the above aspects with the participants.
