Getting Published! A guide for early career researchers
Abstract
Publishing in a journal as an early career researcher can be daunting. How do I choose the right journal for my research? What is the editorial process once you have submitted your manuscript? How do you make a good first impression? How do you navigate the peer review process? What can you do with a paper rejection? This presentation outlines the process for submission to a peer-reviewed journal. It addresses some of the ways in which new authors can improve the quality of their papers and get published. It highlights some of the pitfalls authors encounter at various stages of the publishing journey and how to resolve them. In ten years as Editor-in-Chief of Policing and Society I have learned a lot about what constitutes a good submission, writing in an accessible way and tackling revisions and rejection. Questions welcome!
